I Can't Help Myself (Sugar Pie, Honey Bunch) - The Four Tops
The Four Tops were at the height of their popularity when they arrived in London for a series of concerts in March of 1970. This wonderful performance of I Can't Help Myself (Sugar pie, Honey Bunch), taped in color, was recorded on March 15 for Sir David Frost’s “Frost on Sunday” variety show.
The song reached Number One on Billboard’s Pop chart and topped the UK charts as well. Written by legendary songwriting team Holland Dozier Holland, “I Can’t Help Myself” is listed at No. 415 on Rolling Stone magazine’s “Greatest Songs of All Time.”
We also have an equally rare performance of The Four Tops singing “Reach Out, I’ll Be There” in Paris, which is available for purchase and sale on iTunes.
Did you know? When the 45 single of this tune was first released in the Spring of 1965, it was simply titled "I Can't Help Myself". But when word got back to Motown executives that customers were requesting the record from retailers by the title "Sugar Pie, Honey Bunch", they added those four words in parentheses on the labels of future pressings.
